Frequently Asked Questions

It is useful to consult your dentist about the selection of brushes. Some people brush their teeth with too much pressure, consciously or unconsciously. In such cases, gingival recession may occur. It is not right for people with gum recession to use a hard-bristled toothbrush. Because hard-bristled toothbrushes will deform the gums more and cause abrasions on the teeth, it is recommended that these people use soft-bristled brushes. Some people also have small mouths. Such people have difficulty in reaching the back of the mouth when they use a large-headed brush. In this way, oral hygiene will not be fully provided. People with a small mouth structure should choose brushes with medium or small heads. Or these people can also use rotating brushes. Rotating brush heads are small. It will be easier to reach the teeth in the back section compared to manual ones. It is mostly complained of stains on the inside of the teeth. Smoking, tea or coffee use increase these stains. However, these stains can be minimized with regular brushing.

The brush to be used should be preferred according to the tooth and mouth structure. However, as a general recommendation, toothbrush bristles should be straight and of medium hardness. Headboard size should also be of medium size. Toothbrush should be changed at certain intervals (on average three to four months). The bristles of brushes used for a long time bend to the side and can sink into the gums. On the other hand, the cleaning of long-used brushes is reduced by thirty percent compared to a new brush. After certain diseases, there are microbes that can cause re-infection in the brush, so it is necessary to change the brush used at that time.

There are many types in toothpastes, just like toothbrushes. Putties also have different properties within themselves. There are different types such as whitening, anti-cavities or gingival protectors. In the selection of toothpaste, the choice should be made taking into account the problem with the problem. For example, if there is a caries problem, a paste with a superficial protective effect such as fluoride should be chosen. Or if there is a sensitivity problem, a desensitizing toothpaste should be used. In case of discoloration, a paste with whitening properties should be preferred.

Missing teeth can cause tissue integrity in the mouth to deteriorate. Missing teeth cause this part to not perform its full function. The teeth around the missing tooth area evolve from right to left over time. In such cases, the integrity of the system is compromised. If there is a missing tooth, a gap occurs between the other teeth. Food residues accumulate in these cavities and cause caries and gum problems. What needs to be done is to remove the missing tooth without damaging the other teeth. A missing tooth should be considered as a missing organ and should be treated as soon as possible.

Anesthesia should be provided in the area where the procedure will be performed for tooth extraction. In case of inflammation, the distribution of the anesthetic material will be difficult within the tissue. In such cases, complete anesthesia may not be achieved. In addition, after tooth extraction, the veins open into the oral environment and fuse with saliva. In such a case, the inflammation interacts with the blood elements and can spread to the whole body from the tooth extraction section, which is adjacent to the vascular nerve packages in the head and neck region.

Another reason that requires the use of antibiotics before and after tooth extraction is the systemic condition of the patient and the drugs used. Infective endocarditis is an important complication of bacteremia that occurs during dental procedures. This complication is an infection of the inner lining of the heart, its valves or vessels. This is a serious, life-threatening disease. If it is intervened on time, the recovery rate of the first endocarditis is one hundred percent. However, if it is delayed, there is a risk of death. Even in this era when antimicrobial treatments are developed, the mortality rate in case of the emergence of this infection is very important.

Considering such risks, it would be better to postpone tooth extraction in case of inflammation. Prescription should be written to spread the inflammation and eliminate the risk of infective endorcarditis. It cannot be said that such complications will develop in every person with inflammation. However, the important thing here is to identify the patients who are in the high risk group for the development of the aforementioned complications and to take precautions. Patients in the high risk group are those with prosthetic heart valves and children with heart disease. These patients should use antibiotics before a bleeding tooth treatment, regardless of whether they have inflammation or not.

Foods: The breakdown of food particles accumulating between or around the teeth can increase bacteria and cause bad odor. Consuming some foods such as onions, garlic and spices can also cause bad breath. Tobacco products: Smoking causes unpleasant breath.
